Yesterday I had my first official experience in a promotional setting promoting my books and meeting people as an author. It was scary.
It was on the internet which I'm glad of because getting my feet wet for the first time it took some of the pressure off. I met some interesting people who honestly were interested in hearing about my books. They asked interesting and sometimes pointed questions and I was so impressed with the way people respond to writers. They do want to know about you and how you come up with your stories. What inspires you. I really enjoyed myself. Promoting your work isn't easy. You would think with all the social media that we have that you could just put you info out there and then sit back but that's not the case. You have to work at it. I don't mind the work but it is daunting at times. Hell it's daunting most of the time. It's not just a matter of pushing your books but of promoting yourself as well. You have to be able to talk to people and present an image that is as appealing as your work. The nice thing about doing it on the internet is that you can take a moment to filter your brain. If you are doing this in person you not only don't have a chance to filter that monster but then there's your mouth. Sometimes I think my mouth opens all on its own and spills out whatever it chooses. Gina has told me that when I start to make personal appearances, if that happens, she is going with me so she can be my mussel. Believe me I need one.
