I love writing. I have several books I have started and want to work on but there seems to be so many things that are taking up my time right now. The one I'm enjoying is working on a book of short stories with a group of very talented people. We are hoping to have the book out by the first week in June in time for the summer months. Here's hoping we make it.
The other thing is the promotional part of being a writer. I've talked about this before but that in itself is a full time job. You don't just write a book and publish it and expect it to suddenly sell a million copies and you become rich from it. It is a long drawn out process to get your book noticed. I was told by an established writer that in the first year you were doing good to sell even ten books. Well I went over that but am I anywhere near being established as a writer. No. Not even close.
Am I discouraged by this? I'm not really. I didn't go into this looking to make millions of dollars but I would love to know that people are reading my books and taking joy from it. That is the second most important thing to me. The first is what I get personally from my writing. There is something about putting that last word in your book and knowing you finished it. The idea that you brought together a line of ideas that made a story that you found worth writing can't be described. There is a sense of accomplishment that is hard to explain. The biggest thing is I simply love writing and the feeling you get when the words are flowing and coming together to make that story. It doesn't get any better than that.
Unfortunately the promotional end of it is a necessary endeavor if you want others to read your books and be able to share with them. Yes it means you might make some money and yes that's a good thing but it is a small part of the whole process if you really love to write.
So please check out the book trailers and the video tour of the place that inspired the farm in the Blood Line series as well as a little short story.
and here is where you can find all my books.
