You now have to pay to get inside the old cemetery now. From the reviews if you sign up with one of the tour companies in New Orleans you will probably have an interesting and fun, I hate using the word fun here, experience. Do not however take the tour offered on site and is run by the keepers of that cemetery.
My daughter took the tour that you pay your twenty bucks for at the cate of the cemetery and the whole experience was bad from the tour guides attitude, his narrative on the cemetery, to the total lack for concern for people taking the tour. If you don’t believe me check out the review on the tours and you’ll find the ones who took the tour through the tour services separate from the cemetery itself the reviews are generally glowing where the ones offered by the cemetery itself the reviews as a whole are very negative. So do yourself a favor and if you want to tour the cemetery do it through one of the many tour services spate from the location. Some of the things you’ll encounter with the tours offered at the gate of the cemetery are ‘do not step away from your group for any reason including getting sick or injured while on the tour because you could end up getting reprimanded and even kicked out of the cemetery, even though they tell you that it’s OK to take pics the tour guide can kick you out of the cemetery for doing so if they chose, be ready for a lot of ridiculous babble about things and people you could care less about and don’t call the guide out on any information you know is wrong or you could get kicked out of the group. There are more things that could set off the guide but the point is they pretty much all seem to do a lousy job at what they do. I’m copying the review my daughter left on Yelp. Our tour guide was awful. Our kid fell and hurt her knee, it slowed us down and then she refused to walk at one point. She was hot, tired and injured. Our guide walked back to where we were (we were walking again and almost at the entrance) and he went off. He copped an attitude and yelled at us for getting him in trouble. He then took the opportunity to belittle and shame my whole family in front of the group for the hold up. The hold up in this case being the end of the tour, outside the wall and his opportunity to collect his tips. $40 rip off.
