I guess I was like most people when I first looked into publishing a book. I thought you just published the damn thing and then basically forget about it. Oh I don't mean you walked away and never thought of it again but I had no idea what went into actually getting it out there to people and getting them to buy it. It's hard work.
There are all sorts of gimmicks you can use to try and get people to buy your book. For instance I had no idea that they have book trailers, movies yes but for books no. Of course there is also the different types of social media and I'm still learning the ins and outs of that mess. Of course there are personal appearances but they are very few and far between unless you're someone who is on the New York Times Best Seller List. The money part would be great but to be on that list, yes I would like that. Writing is no easy task no matter what you might think. It's hard work. You pour your soul into something and hope that someone will come along and read it. You've in essence ripped your insides out and spread them all across the written page and pray that people will like it. To have them love it is beyond compare. I don't know about all other writers but the ones I've talked to are a lot like me. They put a little of themselves into each book they write and those books become our children. We love them. We can't help that, it's just the way it is. I have a couple of things I'm working on at the present time in regards to my books to help promote them. Right now there is a sell on my books at Smashwords. That a little thing but hopefully the bigger ones I have up my sleeves will be ready soon. I said that when I started this blog it would be about the process of writing and the journey it has taken me on. I know that I post things that may not seem to fit with that but it does. Everything that happens in my life has now become a story that may or may not one day end up if not the whole idea for a book could very well become a scene in one. My husband putting the nose of his over sized pickup in the air while trying to remove his little tractor from the back, my daughter trying to tame her feller, or that idiot in the truck next to us who makes that horrible sound and then manages to leave the entire contents in the bed of his truck lying in the middle of the street. That last one really was funny. Everything you do becomes a source for inspiration. It's like the book I'm working on now. It started out as a short story to amuse a friend and it took on a life of it's own. She wanted a spicy love story and I write horror so you can imagine where that has gone. Anyway thought I would let you know where I am in my journey as I am about to publish my fourth book. Have a pleasant weekend my friends and readers and I hope your life is filled with wonderful stories of your own and may the powers that be bless your every move.
