I took my husband out for a nice dinner last night. He 's a wonderful man and husband, most of the time, and he really deserved to be treated to a pleasant outing. We had a delightful time and we have a lovely dinner at a really great place and all went well until I stepped out of the restaurant and discovered that my phone was missing. Checked back in the restaurant to make sure it hadn't fallen out of my purse and then checked the truck to make sure it wasn't there. We hadn't been anywhere else so we both hoped I had left it at home. Sure enough when we walked in my phone was lying on the couch in full view. After a deep sigh of relief I pick it up and checked to see if there were any missed calls. Boy was there. My daughter Gina had called six times in the past hour. Of course I immediately call her back. I didn't get the hi mom I was expecting but a rather loud if not totally shrill "where have you been?" I informed her that her dad and I had gone out to dinner and asked if anything was wrong. She had spent the entire day at the university doing a presentation for a research lab she is a part of and was tired and, I have to admit, a little petulant after being on her feet all day. "I have been trying to call you and you weren't answering your phone." "Well sweetie why didn't you call your dad?" "I did, twice." Turning to my husband I informed him that Gina had tried to call him as well. He looked at his phone and saw that somehow the darn thing had shut off by itself so he hadn't gotten the calls. "Honey we're really sorry. Is there something wrong? "I got through and thought we could go to dinner but now we can't because you two have already gone and I'm hungry. Gina's significant other was working poor guy, he's a fireman, so Gina would have to either go home and fix something or go get something but either way she would be eating alone. As I'm telling her to come on by and we would do something she walks around her dad's truck. This girl was not confused in the least. We would be going somewhere together. Buddy had things he needed to get done so Gina and I headed to the best Chinese place in town where she ordered way more than she could eat and took a lot home with her. Now all this rattling has been for a reason. Believe it or not this is where the story actually begins. When Gina couldn't get in touch with us she called her older sister Ginny. That's another long story, Ginny and Gina's names, and for another time. Gina starts grilling her sister about our whereabouts and Ginny answer her with "They may be avoiding me because I've been hounding them about going to eat a lot lately. I think they may be hiding." Her husband works all the time so we often eat with her so she doesn't eat alone, well alone with an almost two year old boy who hangs from the rafters and is already chasing girls. "Ginny they always take my calls." "Gina they are probably getting something to eat. Remember they are old and they eat early." "Still, they always take my calls." "Well all I can tell you is not to get worried until after six o'clock." Now what is wrong with that last conversation? Can you see it? There it is. Ginny matter-of-factually declares us as OLD. What, because we don't like to wait two hours to get a table and then wait for another hour for us to be served. Because we both hate it when the restaurants get so filled you can't hear yourself think little on try to talk to one another? Does that make us old? I ask you, does it? As I bow my head in defeat, OK so we're old. Below are pics of both those lovely girls, Ginny and Gina and in that order.
