You see I had to write a 250 word short story for a little competition, no I didn't win that but I am going into the book being published with those short stories, and it got me to thinking.
So just for shits and giggles I sat down and wrote this other one. I had no idea what to do with the damn thing then it hit me. Make a video of the damn thing and post it on Youtube. I mean after all what's it going to hurt right. I even went out there and checked to see if it had been done before and it has but so far not like I did this one. You one great and much beloved author had done some but so far what I've seen is a blank screen with a hand logo, I think, and nothing else while someone reads the story. OK great I get it. A few others have actors and they are playing out the story. OK again I get it. I wanted to do something different. You see I knew the only way to truly appreciate this story is if the person read it. So I used basically story boards. There are lovely little pictures in between the paragraphs to give you a chance to catch your breath and enjoy a pleasant little view in between. It's all very lovely and pleasant.
Well for me it is but maybe not so much for the reader. The descriptions and reviews I got from my wide range of test subjects, I love saying that test subjects, was rather nice in my opinion. Things like chilling, scary, on edge, WTF was one that was used just before they told me it scared the crap out of them all music to my ears. One of my favorites was "I am not a big fan of short stories, cause most seem to miss the mark when it comes to heart pounding anxiety, but that little bugger hit the nail on the head." Another was "I have to tell you my heart is racing RIGHT FREAKING NOW. I am not joking...that is by far, one of the BEST short stories I have EVER read! LOVE IT!" Here are a couple more, "I knew the music stopped for dramatic effect. I thought the whole thing was brilliant. I know it's something that's been done but I don't think in this genre. Well done Cathy. It catches and ( more importantly) holds your attention," and "I was tense not knowing what would happen next, with photos. Music stopped, Scary."
Now I have to admit I did get a double bang out of this. After spending nearly twenty-four hours on this little darling I finally got to sit back and watch and read it from beginning to end with the music and a little something else, and just as it was finishing I couldn't help myself. I let out this great big yell of Yes!" Now i had my headphones on and my husband was sitting in his chair listening to the evening news while working on something and when I had my outburst he jumped nearly three feet in the air up from his chair and gave me a look that had me concerned for moment that I might be the lead in for the nightly news. Yes it was funny to me. You see my husband doesn't get excited by anything. He is the calmest, coolest, unrattleable person on earth. yes I know that unrattleable isn't a word but so what. People run around making up new words all the time and that one is mine for this week. Yes I have others.
Now the bad thing about shaking up the man of stone is that he has a defibrillator implanted in his chest next to his heart. You'll have to excuse me here I started laughing again. Hey Tony you listening up there? I finally got him. Oh Tony is my oldest brother who passed away a few years ago, yes I miss the pain in the ass, and when he discovered Buddy's extreme calm nature he spent the rest of his life trying to shake him. He never did.
Anyway I will be posting the video here in a few minutes and I'm not going to post this yet because I intend to put the link in here so by the time you read this it should be ready to go.
I forgot. I better go check on a friend. The last I heard she was going to go and watch the video and I haven't heard back from her. I hope she is OK.
Well it is done for better or worse so here it is if you care to have a look.
