Over the past couple of years my daughter has brought up me moving in with her and her family should anything happen to my husband. Don’t me wrong here she has talked about the same thing with him so she isn’t playing favorites here. Well may be she is a little because she doesn’t believe her dad is as senile as I am evidently.
She brought it up again Monday after I had spent the weekend house sitting and pet sitting for her. I finally had to be honest with her about it. It isn’t going to happen. Of course she asked why. I promptly told her.
“Sweetie you’re bossy, pushy, and you want to treat me like a child.”
“Well is it wrong for me to want you to be around for a long time?”
“Gina I am going to be where I can do as I damn well please for as long as I can and I’m not having anyone dictating to me what I can and can’t do.”
There were other things that came out in that conversation but we finally came to an agreement. If that should ever happen she would respect my space. This lead off into another issue.
“When have I ever not respected your space Mom?”
“Always. Let me give you a prime example of that. While I was getting packed this morning you came into the quest room and proceeded to crawl up in my bed with my pillows.”
Laughingly she responded, “You’re right.”
You see all her life I don’t care what it was or what I was doing my little darling was under my feet. I needed to go to the bathroom for any reason she was there. Even as a teenager she spent more time in bed with me than in her own room. If I made myself a glass of tea she took it because mine always tasted better. In case you haven’t figured it out she is a momma’s girl.
Here’s the flip side of that. When she came into that room and clawed up in that bed I did what I’ve always done, I tucked her in and kissed her cheek. In those moment I have my baby back and it rocks my world. So should it ever become an issue I guess I would move close to her, not in the same house, and enjoy just being a mom to my little girl. Oh that is if I’m not off in Florida or something. I didn’t say I was going to get tied down. LOL.
